Operating on the traditional principles of a market, the Melbourne Design Market features up to 50 stallholders- in this case designers and retailers- coming together to sell products to the community.

A stringent selection process applies to all stallholder applications, ensuring only the highest quality, commercial products are admitted. It is this high standard which distinguishes the Melbourne Design Market from all other events.

The program covers sustainable best practice, financial management, contractual law, media relations, IP, manufacturing process, retail and export strategy. A great collection of images and info on the design of ‘wheely-boards’ (as I call them, when in grampa-mode) from the 1920s to Today.

While the actual museum website is a little cumbersome to use, it’s a fascinating look at the evolution of a product, and in turn a culture that continues to be an influence. Skaters are so darn cool.
